Looted From?[]

You need to achieve certain player levels to unlock the ability to loot higher level ammo, such as player level 10 to unlock the ability to find 7.62mm Rifle from level 10+ zones.

A bold X means that in this area level, the ammunition types have the highest chance to be found (because there is the lowest overall chance of finding other ammunition types).

There is a higher chance to find ammo in Police Department buildings, and also when increasing Find Ammo Chance and Find Ammo Quantity bonuses.

Pistol and Submachine Gun Ammunition[]

.32 ACP
Level Zone Lootable: 1-30

Scrap Value: $0.3 / bullet | $60 / box

.32 ACP rounds are lightweight and compact, but have a short range and low stopping power. However, this ammo is quite cheap and easy to manufacture.

Used by:

9mm
Level Zone Lootable: 5-35
Stack Size: 200 Rounds
Scrap Value: $0.5 / bullet | $100 / box

George Luger originally presented the 9mm Parabellum round in 1902, and it was adopted in 1904 and 1906 by the German Navy and German army, respectively. The 9mm Parabellum was originally designed to be lethal up to a distance of 50 meters, but the bullet is still lethal at distances slightly greater than 50m. Against the unrelenting savagery of the infected, this lethality isn't as useful as it should be, but with enough rounds, most normal infected can be brought down by the standard 9mm.

Used by:

.357 Magnum
Level Zone Lootable: 10+
Stack Size: 200 Rounds
Scrap Value: $1 / bullet | $200 / box

The .357 Magnum round was the caliber that started the "Magnum" era of handgun ammunition. Built for use in pistols (the most famous being the Colt Python revolver), it was famous in the pre-outbreak world for its stopping power. Being both fairly powerful and relatively cheap, the .357 is regarded as a decent general-use round.

Used by:

.38 Special
Level Zone Lootable: 30+
Stack Size: 200 Rounds
Scrap Value: $1.75 / bullet | $350 / box

The .38 Special, also commonly known as .38 S&W Special or 9x29mmR is a rimmed, centerfire cartridge designed by Smith & Wesson.

Used by:

.40 SW
Level Zone Lootable: 35+
Stack Size: 200 Rounds
Scrap Value: $2.25 / bullet | $450 / box

The .40 S&W is a rimless pistol cartridge developed jointly by American firearms manufacturers Smith & Wesson and Winchester in 1990.

Used by:

.45 Kolt
Level Zone Lootable: 45+
Stack Size: 200 Rounds
Scrap Value: $2.75 / bullet | $550 / box

The .45 Kolt (11.43×33mmR), is a rimmed, straight-walled, handgun cartridge dating to 1872.

Rifle and Assault Rifle Ammunition[]

5.56mm Rifle
Level Zone Lootable: 1-30
Stack Size: 120 Rounds
Scrap Value: $0.3 / bullet | $36 / box

The 5.56x45 standard NATO rifle round is a standard rifle caliber with excellent penetrating capacity, being able to go through 15-20 inches of living flesh, and roughly 10-13 inches of infected flesh. However, this bullet is still the weakest of the available calibers.

Used by:

7.62mm Rifle
Level Zone Lootable: 10+
Stack Size: 120 Rounds
Scrap Value: $0.75 / bullet | $90 / box

The 7.62x39 mm round is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate cartridge of Soviet origin that was designed during World War II. Due to the worldwide proliferation, the cartridge is used by both militaries and civilians alike. 7.62x39 mm can function well in cold polar or hot desert conditions.

Used by:

8mm Rifle
Level Zone Lootable: 35+
Stack Size: 120 Rounds
Scrap Value: $2 / bullet | $240 / box

The 8mm (7.92) caliber has a wide range of cartridges using it because it was developed in the late 1800s. One of the most known types are 8mm Mauser AKA 7.92x57mm Mauser

Used by:

9mm Rifle
Level Zone Lootable: 45+
Stack Size: 120 Rounds
Scrap Value: $2.5 / bullet | $300 / box

Shotgun Shells[]

20 Gauge
Level Zone Lootable: 1-40
Stack Size: 80 Rounds
Scrap Value: $0.3 / shell | $24 / box

A lightweight, small-shot round, generally used for skeet/trap shooting and hunting waterfowl, the 20-gauge shell is a cheap, versatile round. Like all shotgun shells, once fired it releases a cloud of lead pellets that will dig into an enemy and cripple it with pain. However, against the deadened nerves of the zombies, this shotgun shell's capacity to debilitate a target with ease is much less effective, forcing users to shoot many more times to completely bring down their targets. Nonetheless, many users find this shotgun shell useful due to its lightweight and cheapness to manufacture.

Used by:

12 Gauge
Level Zone Lootable: 5+
Stack Size: 80 Rounds
Scrap Value: $0.75 / shell | $60 / box

One of the most powerful shotgun shells manufactured, only a few types of ammunition are able to match or beat the 12-gauge. It discharges a closely packed cloud of large lead shot, which can instantly kill most normal infected with a single close-range shot and punch numerous holes in any mutant or infected.

Used by:

10 Gauge
Level Zone Lootable: 35+
Stack Size: 80 Rounds
Scrap Value: $2 / shell | $160 / box

The father of all modern shotgun gauges and the predecessor to the most successful 12 gauge, the "Mighty 10" or "Big 10" as the 10 gauge is both sometimes called, is the largest and most powerful chambering found in a modern shotgun today.

Fuel[]

Fuel is used as ammo in all Chainsaws and Unique Chainsaws, although it is not included in "Ammo" category when viewing Inventory or Trader offers, but instead is shown in its own "Fuel" category. Fuel is also required for Fast Travel around the city, and used as a crafting ingredient in Gore Trimmer Mission Chain.

It is lootable in all zones, however there is a higher chance to find fuel in Industrial buildings, and also when increasing Find Fuel Chance and Find Fuel Quantity bonuses.
