Introduction to Shotguns[]

In Dead Frontier 2, shotguns come with either a semi-auto or full-auto trigger. Semi-auto deal more headshot damage, while full-auto deal the same headshot and body damage. Shotguns are generally designed for close quarters combat due to their spread shot, and can deal more body DPS than other firearms. Every well-aimed shotgun pellet adds up to the total damage per shot, but then again you could also do very little damage if too few pellets hit the target. And so, always go up and close to your target to maximize damage.

The difference between the two is that the non-prefixed one affects the player globally (i.e. any weapon used by the player), while with the prefixed one affects only the individual weapon item on which it is found.

However, the batch found around Palehaven are all reworked semi-automatic models for the local law enforcement. While the firing rate can be high the knockback is also a force you have to watch out for. Regardless, the 12 gauge round is more than sufficient enough to blast a head into minced spaghetti.

This solved the problem that previously existed for a long time, whereby the survivors of Palehaven had issues managing their time between firing their shots, and reloading the tedious shotgun shells back into the barrel. Distributed among those who were defined and stronger than the rest, the shotgun proves that while there might be no way of stopping the dead, there was definitely a way to put ALOT of holes in them without having to reload.

The semi-automatic Model 1887 was one of the first successful repeating shotguns. Its lever-action design was chosen at the behest of the Chesterfield Repeating Arms Company, best known at the time as manufacturers of lever-action rifles such as the Chesterfield Model 1873. Designer Marcus Mannberg suggested that a pump-action would be much more appropriate for a repeating shotgun, but Chestefield management's position was that, at the time, the company was known as a "lever-action firearm company", and felt that their new shotgun must also be a lever-action for reasons of brand recognition.

The automatic AA-12 (Auto Assault-12), originally designed and known as the Artichok Assault Shotgun, is an automatic combat shotgun developed in 1972 by Maximillian Artichok. The most prominent feature is reduced recoil. The current 2005 version is the most widespread found around Palehaven, since the patent was sold to Military Security Systems, Inc. The original design was the basis of several later weapons, including the USAN-12 combat shotgun. This particular model fires only in full automatic mode, the only fire selector you have is your index finger. It is fed from a 20-shell drum magazine.
